System overview
The Foam Neck Support V2 is a positioning device placed under the cervical column of the horse in dorsal recumbency during cervical spine surgery.
It holds the neck in the alignment intended after fusion: fully extended for C2–C3 to C5–C6, and neutral with the head slightly flexed for C6–C7 and C7–T1.
Advantages: stable and reproducible positioning of the neck throughout the procedure; helps reproduce the intended post-fusion alignment and avoid step deformity; additional padding can be placed beneath the involved vertebrae to assist reduction, particularly in dorsal subluxation.
Limitations: the position must be adapted to the level treated, the underlying lesion and the reduction required; the planned alignment must be confirmed radiographically before fixation.
